 Elon Musk, the billionaire, is proposing to proceed with his original offer of $44 billion to acquire Twitter Inc, according to two sources familiar with the matter, signaling the end of a bitter legal battle that was about to go to trial.Â
A deal would put the world's richest person in charge of one of the most influential media platforms, putting an end to months of tumultuous litigation that harmed Twitter's brand and fueled Musk's reputation for erratic behavior.
 It was not immediately clear why Musk chose to drop his fight with Twitter.
The announcement comes just days before Musk and Twitter square off in Delaware's Court of Chancery on Oct. 17.
