A SOLDIER WAS EXECUTED BY FIRING SQUAD FOR ASSASSINATING HIS COMMANDER OVER A WAGE DISPUTE

Only a few days after being convicted guilty of murdering his commander by a military court in Mogadishu, a former soldier was put to death on Friday.

An SNA 59th Army Transport Division soldier named Abdinasir Daud Sheikh Hassan was executed by firing squad at the Mogadishu police academy after being found guilty of killing Hurdaye's superior officer, Abdi Mohamed Ahmed (Sleepy).

Military court officials, troops, and at least a few of the victim's relatives were present when the firing squad took place.

On September 29, Abdinasir admitted to killing Hurdaye and hurting two other people during a court proceeding. He stated that a pay disagreement was the reason he killed his commander.

Due to the quickness with which Abdinasir Daud was detained, prosecuted, and executed, one legislator voiced concern that he was not given a fair trial.

"This young cop was arrested under investigation, tried and executed in the course of one week. He was convicted of killing another police officer. No appeals were accepted.

When and even the location of his burial were kept a secret from his family. Claimed by former government spokesman and MP Mohamed Ibrahim Moalimuu.

Capital punishment is permitted in Somalia, and individuals who are found guilty are often killed by firing squad after being found guilty by a military court.

To prevent anyone from being killed based on flimsy evidence, however, Somali legal experts and human rights advocates have asked authorities to make military court hearings more accessible and transparent.
